Introduction of Belief in Hazrat Muhammad Prophethood

Introduction of Belief in Hazrat Muhammad Prophethood

Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Lord of the worlds. Peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Master of the Prophets and the Seal of the Messengers and upon his family and companionsand those who follow them with good till the Day of Recompense. After this, I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Allah says “Say (O Muhammad): O mankind! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah to you all. Unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. There’s no God but Allah. He quickeneth and He giveth death. So believe in Allah and His messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, who believeth in Allah and in His Words and follow him that haply ye may be led aright. (Surah Al-Araf – Ayat 158)
And the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief) he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire. (Sahih Muslim 153 – Book 1, Hadith 292)

Belief in Hazrat Muhammad Prophethood

By the grace and grace of Allah Almighty, the month of Rabiul Awwal is beginning from the day of Sunday. In this blessed month Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), the mercy of the universe, the beloved, the compassionate, upon whom be blessings and peace, may his remembrance be blessed, may his birth be blessed, may his beautiful form and his beautiful character be mentioned in our hearts.

All praise is due to Allah. The reality is that the blessed remembrance of the Prophet (saw) is not limited to any special month, or any special gathering. Allah has said that

“O Beloved, We have raised your remembrance.”

In the Kalima, in the Adhans, in the prayers, in the circles of the angels, in the gatherings of the humans and the jinn, wherever Allah is being mentioned, the blessed remembrance of the Prophet (saw) is also being mentioned. Inshallah, in the future, in the context of the month of Rabiul Awwal, we will discuss this topic. May Allah make it easy for us.

The Question of Belief in Hazrat Muhammad Prophethood

Today, I would like to answer a question. This question is being asked especially by those people who are reading the translation of the Holy Quran and are trying to find the answers to the questions from a person who is not familiar with the Holy Quran, or from a person who is not an expert in the Holy Quran, but rather, they themselves form an opinion. A few days ago, this question was repeated, although this topic was discussed in the Friday Sermon of the Holy Prophet (saw) but with the help of Allah, the answer to this question should be revealed to you. This is beneficial for all of us.

Before I start with the question, I would like to read a statement of the Holy Prophet (saw) in Sahih Muslim which I read in the beginning. This statement is also quoted from the book of faith in Sahih Muslim from Syedna Abu Huraira (R.A.).

Sahih Muslim 153 - Book 1, Hadith 292
Sahih Muslim 153 – Book 1, Hadith 292

It is important for you to remember this. Because the verses that will be mentioned in the question are revealed to the same person who has the right to explain the true explanation of these verses.

The Holy Prophet (saw) said:

By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire.

Sahih Muslim 153 – Book 1, Hadith 292

I swear by the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, in whose hands is the life of Muhammad (saw)

he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me,

but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief) that Allah has sent to Hazrat Muhammad PBUH. My (PBUH) teachings reached him but he did not believe

He will not go to heaven, but his abode is in hell.
(Sahih Muslim 153 – Book 1, Hadith 292)

The word “هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ” means Jews and Christians in this nation. Because the Prophet’s (saw) prophethood and messengership are universal. All people are counted in the Ummah of the Prophet (saw). The Ummah is divided into two parts. One is the Ummah of Dawah (Invitation) and the other is the Ummah of Ijabat (Response). All the people of the universe are included in the Ummah of Dawah. Because the Dawah of the Prophet (saw) is for all people. Those who have accepted that Dawah are called the Ummah of Ijabat.

The Universality of the Prophet’s Message

The reason why it is mentioned Jews and Christians in this Ummah in this ayat is that in Surah A’raf verse number 158,

Surah Al-Araf - Ayat 158
Surah Al-Araf – Ayat 158

“Say, O My Beloved, declare to them,

O people, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all.” I have come to all of you as the Messenger of Allah.

In Surah Nisa verse number 79,

Surah An-Nisa - Ayat 79
Surah An-Nisa – Ayat 79

“And We have sent you as a Messenger to us, and Allah is Witness over you.” O Beloved, We have sent you as a Messenger to all of humanity, and Allah is witness over the truthfulness of your message.
(Surah An-Nisa – Ayat 79)

“And Allah is Witness over you.”

In Surah Saba verse number 28,

“And We have sent you as a Messenger to all of humanity, O Beloved, to give good news to them and to warn them.”
(Surah Saba – Ayat 28)

In Surah Anbiya verse number 107,

Surah Al-Anbya - Ayat 107
Surah Al-Anbya – Ayat 107

“We sent thee not save as a mercy for the peoples.”
(Surah Al-Anbya – Ayat 107)

O Beloved, We have sent you as a Messenger to all of humanity. Since the Prophethood and Nabuwat of the Prophet is universal, and he has been sent as a Prophet to all of humanity, therefore, all Jews, Christians and non-believers are all included in the Ummah of the Prophet because they are part of the Ummah of Dawah

The Universal Message of Faith and Salvation

The question pertains to two verses from the Holy Qur’an, namely Surah Baqarah verse number 62 and Surah Maida verse number 69, which mention Jews and Christians. Surprisingly, these verses do not explicitly state the necessity of believing in the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). Some have attempted to use these verses as a basis to argue for the unity of religions.

In Surah Baqarah:

Surah Al-Baqarah - Ayat 62
Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 62

Lo! Those who believe (in that which is revealed unto thee, Muhammad), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabaeans

whoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right – surely their reward is with their Lord.

Similarly, in Surah Maida verse number 69:

Surah Al-Ma'idah - Ayat 69
Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 69

Lo! those who believe, and those who are Jews, and Sabaeans, and Christians

Whosoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right

(Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 69)

there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.

The term “Sabians” is also mentioned in these verses.

“Indeed, those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sabians and the Christians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteous deeds, shall have no fear or regret.”

It is evident that, since these verses do not explicitly mention the Prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad PBUH, some have contended that belief in his Prophethood is not necessary for salvation. This matter warrants careful consideration.

There are two crucial points to comprehend here. First, the interpretation of the Holy Qur’an is based on the principle that one part of the Qur’an elucidates another. Therefore, these verses convey that individuals who, during the time of Hazrat Musa (A.S) or the subsequent Prophets and Messengers, embraced their Prophethood and referred to themselves as Jews, or who, during the era of Hazrat Isa (A.S) and the Prophets and Messengers of his time, accepted their Prophethood and were known as Christians, and those who initially believed in the Prophethood sent by Allah and later adopted the term “Sabians” when their beliefs became corrupted – all of these individuals, as long as they believe in the Oneness of Allah, Prophethood, and the Hereafter, are saved. This forms the first point of understanding.

The Necessity of Faith in Prophethood

The second thing, the second thing is very important, that in both of these verses, there is an essential point that demands careful consideration. The beliefs mentioned here are those profound truths that must be embraced with a sincere heart and confessed with one’s tongue. Yet, the beliefs of Islam, which are indispensable for salvation, are not explicitly stated in these verses. Therefore, it is imperative to dispel the misunderstanding that merely having a generational or relative attachment to a particular group or community is sufficient for attaining salvation in the Hereafter.

This misconception needs to be corrected. It is erroneous to believe that one can attain salvation without faith and good deeds simply because they belong to a particular group or community. The Jews, for instance, used their generational and relative pride to separate themselves from other nations. They referred to themselves as “civilized” and labeled other communities as “unlettered” or “uncivilized.” This separation is evident in the Holy Qur’an, as mentioned in Surah Al-Imran, verse 75:

Surah Ali 'Imran - Ayat 75
Surah Ali ‘Imran – Ayat 75

“This is because they say: ‘We have no duty to the Gentiles.'”

These verses expose their attitude, where they believed they could consume their people’s wealth, practice usury, and commit injustices without consequence, as they considered themselves above others.

Moreover, the Jews and Christians boasted about their lineage and closeness to Allah, as evident in Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse 18:

Surah Al-Ma'idah - Ayat 18
Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 18

“The Jews and Christians say: ‘We are sons of Allah and His loved ones.'”

They claimed a profound closeness to Allah, akin to the relationship between a son and father.

In Surah Baqarah, verse 80, they claimed that the world was 7,000 years old and that they would only spend one day in Hell for every 1,000 years. Some even said they would spend 40 days in Hell because their forefathers had worshiped for 40 days:

Surah Al-Baqarah - Ayat 80
Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 80

“They say, ‘We will only be touched by fire for a few days.'”

This mindset persisted despite the reality that they were misled about religion, as stated in Surah Ali ‘Imran, verse 24:

Surah Ali 'Imran - Ayat 24
Surah Ali ‘Imran – Ayat 24

“They say that we will be touched by fire for a few days. Allah is saying ‘These are the things that have deceived them about religion.'”

Furthermore, Surah Baqarah, verse 111, sheds light on their claims:

Surah Al-Baqarah - Ayat 111
Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 111

Christians and Jews used to say:

“They say, ‘No one will enter Paradise except the Jews and the Christians.'”

Allah is mentioning this in the Holy Quran. And here’s the weird thing They used to reject each other.

Surah Al-Baqarah - Ayat 113
Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 113

(Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 113)

The Jews used to say Christians have no status

And the Christians used to say that the Jews have no reality

Answering Claims of Exclusive Salvation in the Hereafter in the Qur’an

Allah has mentioned the answer to these claims in the Holy Quran. For example, in Surah Baqarah, verse 94,

Surah Al-Baqarah - Ayat 94
Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 94

“Say, ‘O My Beloved, tell them,

(Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 94)

That if the home of the hereafter is purely yours has taken. That means heaven is only for you

And no one will be able to go to heaven

Why are you living in the hell of the world? Desire death and go to Paradise quickly.'”

Allah is mentioning this in the Holy Quran.

“Desire death if you are truthful.”

Similarly, in Surah Jumaa, verse 6,

Surah Al-Jumu'ah - Ayat 6
Surah Al-Jumu’ah – Ayat 6

“Say, ‘O My Beloved, tell the People of the Book,

If you have this claim, you have this mind Claiming that you are more than other human beings friends of Allah, and dear to Allah.

Then you should desire death if you are truthful.

Allah has answered their claim in the Holy Quran. Allah has also mentioned that for the salvation of the Hereafter, it is necessary to believe in the Prophethood Muhammad PBUH. Without believing in the Prophethood Muhammad PBUH, no one will never be saved.

The Core Beliefs of Islam: A Universal Requirement

Allah has given all the beliefs and beliefs of Islam, and it is necessary for all Muslims, Jews, Christians, and all people to believe in the Prophethood of Allah. Allah has mentioned this in the Holy Quran. For example, in Surah Baqarah, verse 285, Listen carefully to the words:

Surah Al - Baqarah - Ayat 285
Surah Al – Baqarah – Ayat 285

(Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 285)

These are the beliefs on which the Messenger of Allah and all the believers have believed.

Which are they?

They believe in Allah.

“And believe in His angels,

and in the books He has revealed to them,

and belief in all His Messengers.”

The next sentence is,

We make no distinction between any of the Messengers.

In fact, we believe in all the Messengers. These are the beliefs. Similarly, in Surah Baqarah, verse 177,

Surah Al - Baqarah - Ayat 177
Surah Al – Baqarah – Ayat 177

(Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 177)

What is the true faith and the true piety? That it is necessary to believe in Allah, in the Last Day, in the angels, and in the books revealed by Allah, and in all the Prophets.

Until and unless you believe in all the Prophets, it is not possible to be saved/salvation.

The Consequences of Denying Core Beliefs: Addressing the People of the Book in the Quran

And in Surah Nisa, verse 136,

Surah An - Nisa - Ayat 136
Surah An – Nisa – Ayat 136

(Surah An-Nisa – Ayat 136)

Whoever denies Allah, His angels, His books, and all His Messengers, and the Last Day, he is lost, he is misguided.

And the People of the Book were addressed separately in the Holy Qur’an. That is, the Jews and the Christians were addressed separately in the Holy Qur’an.

Surah Al-Baqarah - Ayat 40
Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 40

(Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 40)

These are the words
Surah Al-Baqarah - Ayat 41
Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 41

(Surah Al-Baqarah – Ayat 41)

Look, O Jews and Christians, O People of the Book, believe in what I have sent down in the form of the Holy Qur’an.

Which is confirming all these books Those who are yours came to you

That is the confirmation of the Torah and the confirmation of the Gospel. They The Gospel and the Torah which is without distortion. The Torah and the gospel that is free from human distortion And is to confirm this

Beware! Do not become a disbeliever first, do not deny this book.

When you confirm the book, then the author of the book must be confirmed. Therefore, the author of the book was mentioned separately.

The Arrival of the Messenger: A Warning and Glad Tidings for the People of the Book

Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse 19,

Surah Al-Ma'idah - Ayat 19
Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 19

Oh Book of People

have come to you Our Messenger

(Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 19)

Prophets and the chain of acknowledgments which was discontinued for some time

Means the breaking of the chain of revelation. “The period of 600-650 years that have passed. The period between the arrival of Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The chain of transmission was interrupted for arrival of prophets and messenger

After that, now ours The Messenger has come to you

“I have come to warn you, that you may say, ‘I have not come to give good news or to warn.'”. “And no one came to warn against disobedience to Allah.”

“O People of the Book, O Jews, O Christians, good news and warnings have come to you.”

“And who are those good news and warnings?” “Hazrat Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).”

“The same thing was explained in Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse 15 and 16.”

Surah Al-Ma'idah - Ayat 15
Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 15

Oh, the people of the book

“O People of the Book, O Jews, O Christians, Our Messenger has come to you.”
Surah Ali 'Imran - Ayat 84
Surah Ali ‘Imran – Ayat 84

We believed in Allah

(Surah Ali ‘Imran – Ayat 84)
Surah Al-Ma'idah - Ayat 15
Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 15

(Surah Al-Ma’idah – Ayat 15)

“Our Messengers have come to you.”. “And who are those Messengers?” “Syedna Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).”. So, it is not only being said to the Muslims. It is being said especially to the People of the Book.

Belief in the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH) as the Essential Path to Salvation

And it was said,

“Say,

And believe in what was sent down to us

“The great names of the Prophets, the great names of the Prophets, after mentioning them.”

“Then He said, “We do not differentiate between them in bringing faith.” “If we differentiate between them in bringing faith, then surely, that thing will come to light which I am now mentioning.”

So, in both these verses, the faith, meaning the ones on whom bringing faith is the means of salvation, is not mentioned. Rather, the faith is mentioned in Surah Baqarah, verse number 285, Surah Baqarah, verse number 177, and Surah Nisa, verse number 136. It is said that it salvation is not possible without having faith in the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). When the Prophet sent Hazrat Maaz as the governor of Yemen, he said to him,

Sunan an-Nasa'i 2522 - Book 23, Hadith 88
Sunan an-Nasa’i 2522 – Book 23, Hadith 88

(Sunan an-Nasa’i 2522 – Book 23, Hadith 88)

Oh my dear, where are you going to be the governor? There you will find some people of the People of the Book

You will go to the People of the Book i.e. Jews and Christians will be there

You will invite them

That they bear witness that there is no god but Allah

And you will invite them saying that I mean Hazrat Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) the Messenger of Allah

Now, this invitation to the People of the Book is the proof that after the advent of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, whether a Jew or a Christian, including a follower of any religion, will not be saved until he believes in the Prophethood of Hazrat Muahhamad (PBUH).

The Unwavering Requirement of Believing in the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH) According to the Quran

Allah has specifically mentioned this in Surah Taghabun, verse number 8.

Surah At-Taghabun - Ayat 8
Surah At-Taghabun – Ayat 8

(Surah At-Taghabun – Ayat 8)

Here Rasool is the singular word. It is singular

Believe in Allah and On His Messenger

And the Qur’an in the Light We have revealed

Similarly, in Surah Taghabun, Allah says,

Surah Al-Hadid - Ayat 7
Surah Al-Hadid – Ayat 7

(Surah Al Hadid – Ayat 7)

Believe in Allah and His Messenger On the character of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Allah has explicitly stated that if anyone makes a difference in the belief of all the prophets and messengers, and does not believe in the Prophethood and Messengerhood of the Holy Prophet PBUH, then Allah has decided that he is a Kafir. Listen to this verse carefully. Surah Nisa, verse 150 and 151. “Innal Lazeena Yakfuruna Billahi Wa Rasoolihi” Those who deny Allah and His messengers,

Surah Al-Nisa - Ayat 150
Surah Al-Nisa – Ayat 150
Surah Al-Nisa - Ayat 151
Surah Al-Nisa – Ayat 151

Those who refuse Of Allah and His Messengers

And they want to differentiate between Allah and His messengers.

Now, this difference is certain that Allah is the Lord and all are His worshippers. Allah is the one who everyone prostates to and all are who prostate to Him. Allah is the Creator and all are His creatures. This difference is certain, but Allah Himself has stated the difference.

They seek to make distinction between Allah and His messengers. How?

And they say

(Surah An-Nisa – Ayat 150)

We believe in some and disbelieve in others

Jews say: “We believe in Hazrat Musa (A.S) and all the prophets who came before him, but we do not believe in Hazrat Isa (A.S) and Muhammad (PBUH). We do not believe in the two prophets.”

Christians say: “We believe in Hazrat Isa (A.S) and all the prophets who came before him, but they say that Hazrat Muhammad PBUH is a great man but not a prophet.”

They say: This book is written. That 100 great men have passed through this world and the top name among them is Sayyid-e-Kainat Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Hazrat Muhammad’s honesty, his nobility his honesty, his majesty. Despite admitting this, you They do not believe in Nabuwat and Prophethood. So what has Allah written about this in Holy Quran.

And they want to distinuish between Allah and his messengers

And how do they distinguish?

And they say: We believe in some and disbelieve in others

Now this is the decision of Allah and not of any Mufti or any preacher or any judge. Allah says:

Surah Al-Nisa - Ayat 152
Surah Al-Nisa – Ayat 152

(Surah An-Nisa – Ayat 151)

Such are disbelievers in truth;

Who is saying this? Who is saying this? Who is saying this? “Allah”

I am not talking about the Arabic grammar because it is not necessary that everyone is understanding that point. But it is a strong statement

Those who don’t believe in the Prophethood of Muhammad they are stubborn infidels

and for disbelievers We prepare a shameful doom.

(Surah An-Nisa – Ayat 152)

But those who believe in Allah and His messengers and make no distinction between any of them, unto them Allah will give their wages;

Just as we believe in Hazrat Musa A.S, we believe in Hazrat Esa A.S and just as we believe in Hazrat Esa, we believe in the Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

Allah says: We should surely reward them for their intention and their faith

Conclusion

So the summary of this whole discussion is that it is not possible to be saved without believing in the propherhood of Prophet Muhammad PBUH and him being Messenger. And based on verse 62 of Surah Baqarah and verse 69 of Surah Al-Maida. Those who believe that they will be saved without believing in the Messenger of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) are misguided. They are not understanding the true meaning of the Qur’an. They should understand the Qur’an in the light of other verses so that they do not become victims of misunderstanding. May Allah grant us all understanding.
